How to Choose a Georgia Health Insurance Company in Atlanta

There are so many things to consider when searching for a Georgia health insurance company.  It is especially tough knowing which Georgia health insurance company to choose when you’re looking for individual health insurance plans.  Here are some tips to help you.

  1. Learn about the types of Georgia health insurance policies and programs.  By gaining an understanding of the individual Georgia health insurance policies and programs, you arm yourself with valuable knowledge that helps you protect yourself from sales jargon and industry speak that could work against you in your search for the right plan and Georgia health insurance company.

  2. Shop around.  Don’t settle on the first Atlanta health insurance provider you find in the yellow pages or whose letter came in the mail.  Request information from several Atlanta health insurance providers.  The most reputable companies include Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia, Coventry and Kaiser Permanente.  Carefully review the individual health insurance quotes and policy information sent to you.

  3. Perform a background check. Check references.  Find out how long the provider has been in business.  Do a little research to make sure the Atlanta health insurance company is legit or stick with one of the Atlanta health insurance providers you know is creditable like Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia, Coventry or Kaiser Permanente

  4. Premium stability.  Once you’ve found a Georgia health insurance company you are interested in, request a quote.  Ask the sales representative about the stability of the premiums.  How often do they go up?  Will your premium increase if you suddenly have a major health issue arise? Will your premium be locked for at least a year?

  5. Healthcare provider network.  Find out how extensive the Georgia health insurance company’s healthcare provider network is.  If you currently have a physician, find out if the doctor or hospital is part of the provider’s network.  If not, you’ll have to decide if you want to make that change.  PPO plans like those offered by Aetna and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia provide the most extensive networks.  Atlanta health insurance companies Coventry and Kaiser Permanente offer excellent HMO networks .
